Catalyzing a culture of impact-driven philanthropy in Latin America.

Confronting one of the world’s lowest rates of philanthropic giving, Latin America needs bold, coordinated solutions to fund systemic change. This project explored a visionary pledge model to mobilize the region’s entrepreneurs and investors toward long-term, impact-driven commitments.

LatAm Pledge ToC

Challenge

Despite rising inequality and complex social challenges across Latin America, the region remains a philanthropic orphan—with low rates of giving, fragmented infrastructure, and deep cultural distrust in the social sector. A tech investor from Brazil initiated an exploration of how to catalyze a culture of long-term, impact-driven philanthropy among Latin American entrepreneurs and investors.

Action

Kara led research into philanthropic trends, barriers, and levers for change in the region—producing an in-depth landscape analysis and convening leaders across tech, philanthropy, and social impact to test and co-create the concept of a LatAm Pledge. This included interviews with donors, foundations, and nonprofit leaders; benchmarking global giving models; and prototyping a pledge structure aligned to regional values and behaviors.

Result

While the pledge was not formally launched, we convened multiple peer groups of entrepreneurs to refine the model and generated new momentum around a values-driven, early-commitment approach to giving. The project seeded a long-term personal commitment to advancing philanthropic infrastructure in Latin America—and we continue to invest in this vision as builders and strategic advisors.
